Getting Back Pain Relief in Farmington, Michigan

Back Pain, Back Ache, Sciatica, Sciatic Nerve, Natural Pain ReliefAre you the kind of person who feels that you just have to live with your back pain and push through? It’s such a common condition that many just write it off as another part of life as they age. The fact is, however, that you may be able to treat the underlying cause of your back pain and find some relief without medication. What may be causing your back pain?

Getting to the Root of the Problem

While this is not a comprehensive list of every condition that can cause back pain, here are a few underlying conditions related to the pain.

  • Degenerative Disc Disease – Whether it is caused by an accident, an injury, or some other type of physical trauma, degenerative disc disease occurs when a disk is worn down. The accident may have caused an injury that didn’t result in a lot of pain, so it gets ignored. Over the course of a number of years, the original trauma rears its ugly head in the form of pain.
  • Lumbar Disc Herniation – In between each vertebrae pairing is a disc that is spongy. If the disc is herniated, that means it has slid out of place, and the vertebrae are grinding on one another. This is the cause of the pain.
  • Isthmic Spondylolisthesis – This condition involves stress fractures that cause vertebrae to slide out of proper position.
  • Facet Joint Osteoarthritis – The back part of the spine has cartilage in the joints. Arthritis or injury may cause the cartilage to degenerate. The result is a joint that rubs together and causes pain.

The important thing is to have back problems treated before they get worse. Most of the conditions above do not occur instantly, but rather they progress over years while a person ignores what they see as a minor injury or pain.

When the head, spine, or neck suffer an injury, the body has to compensate. Often, the pain in a person’s back starts out as an injury in the neck that may cause hardly any pain. We fall, look around to make sure no one saw it, dust ourselves off, and go back to business as usual. Meanwhile, our back is working to compensate for a minor misalignment in the neck. The conditions above result.

The moral of the story is this: when you suffer trauma to the head or neck, you should get it checked out. An upper cervical chiropractor can help you to determine if a misalignment of any degree has occurred in the atlas vertebrae. Correcting the misalignment early may be the difference between whether the conditions above develop or not.
