This condition can occur if a concussion is not properly cared for and can leave one with lingering, miserable symptoms. These symptoms generally begin within 7 to 10 days after the initial injury and may last for months, depending on how severe the injury was. Some even continue to have symptoms for a year or more after the concussion occurred. Here is a list of symptoms to look for if one suspects he may be experiencing PCS:

  • Short-term memory loss

  • Nausea

Why Does Post-Concussion Syndrome Happen?

This is still under debate among the experts. Some feel that when the brain collides with the skull, structural damage happens. Others feel that psychological factors are involved. No one really understands why one person suffers from PCS while another one does not. One thing that has been noted is a change in cerebrospinal fluid flow and a reduction in glucose in the brain.

Where to Find Help for PCS in Farmington, Michigan?

If one is suffering from post-concussion syndrome, he or she may be desperate to find a way to feel better. One area that is seeing success in helping patients get over PCS is that of upper cervical chiropractic care.

Attention is focused on the top two bones of the neck, the atlas and axis vertebrae. During an accident, these are often the bones that become misaligned. When this happens, pressure can be put on the brainstem, thereby hindering communication and cerebrospinal fluid flow to and from the brain and body.

At Premier Family Wellness, we use a gentle method to help realign these bones. When this is done, communication and blood flow to and from the brain is restored. Healing properties contained in the body take over and repair any damage done. This may help a person to recover from PCS naturally.
