Common Fibromyalgia Symptoms Relieved Naturally

Fibromyalgia, Fatigue, Chronic Fatigue, Always Tired, Tired, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, CFSAs many as 5 million Americans over the age of 18 carry a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, the vast majority of them women.  Most people are aware that those with fibromyalgia often experience pain, sometimes severe pain.  There are many other symptoms that are associated with the condition that may not be as well known, including:

  • Widespread pain and aching in the muscles, especially where they attach at the joints
  • Poor sleep quality
  • Anxiety or depression
  • Numbness or tingling in the hands and feet
  • Cognitive issues and memory problems, sometimes referred to as "fibro fog"
  • Restless leg syndrome
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • More painful menstrual cycles in women

Getting to the Cause of the Problem

The diagnosis process for fibromyalgia sufferers is usually long and difficult due to the fact that these symptoms overlap those of many other common conditions.  That, combined with the fact that the exact nature of the condition isn't fully understood, makes getting proper relief care difficult at times.  Most relief options are aimed at keeping symptoms at bay – painkillers for the muscle pain, antidepressants, sleep medications, and more.  These may provide some needed temporary relief, but don't address the root cause of the problem.

Fibromyalgia and the Nervous System

Your body's nervous system is responsible for controlling everything from wiggling your fingers, to keeping life-sustaining functions such as respiration and digestion going.  The nervous system also controls how your brain perceives stimuli, such as a hand on your shoulder or stubbing your toe.  Research has shown that people with fibromyalgia do not process pain signals the way someone without the condition does.  Something that isn't ordinarily perceived as painful might really cause pain in someone with fibromyalgia.

As an upper cervical chiropractor, I work with the way the brain and body are able to communicate with each other by identifying areas in the spine that might be interfering with this process.  This issue oftentimes happens at the uppermost vertebra in the neck, the atlas, due to the way it is shaped, the way it moves, and that it protects the brainstem.  If you've been coping with fibromyalgia symptoms, it is possible that an atlas misalignment is causing a disruption in the way your brain is able to sense pain.  Contacting us for a complimentary consultation can be the first step to achieving lasting relief from fibromyalgia naturally by correcting the underlying cause.
